My Adventure Story

This page shows the progress of my first Atlantic Crossing.  The sailing passage departed  Mindelo, São Vicente (Cape Verde – off the coast of Africa) on January 22nd, 2019. The passage ended in Le Marin, Martinique. on February 7th, 2019.   The distance was 2,273 Nautical Miles (or 4,210 km) and took 16 days at sea.  We averaged 5.8 knots through the trip.  I sailed with John Kretschmer aboard Quetzel, a 47 foot Kaufman Cutter with a total crew of 7 crew.

The crew consisted of 6 Americans and one Canadian for good measure. John the Captain from Florida, Guy from Illinois, Steve from North Carolina, Tim from Iowa, Brad from Maine, Ralph from Wisconsin,  and Dave from Canada.

This was a very diverse crowd, from all over with varying experinces.  This made for some great discussions with most ending in agreement.  The most interesting fact (for me) is that as differnt as our backgrounds are, there seem to be more similarities than differnces.  I'd sail with these guys again anytime.

TRIP QUOTE (via Guy)

“Wonders are many, and none is more wonderful than the power that crosses the white sea, driven by the stormy wind, making a path under surges that threaten to engulf him.”   --Sophocles
