Mother Credits SPOT with Rescuing Sons Adrift in Caribbean

RESCUE PROFILE: Jennifer Smith
Jennifer Smith Jennifer Smith said goodbye to her husband and sons as they headed off to the Bahamas. They were taking the family boat for a fishing trip in Bimini, and she was flying to meet them. Knowing her family and their proclivity for adventure, she bought her son a SPOT X so that he could stay connected while venturing off the grid or in this case, off the coast.

As she sat in the airport waiting for her delayed flight, she kept an eye on their tracks in SPOT Mapping. All was going according to plan until she noticed they took a hard turn off course. She followed the tracks, and they stayed off course. She knew something was wrong, so she reached out to a friend with a boat and their boat insurance company. The insurance company, along with their friend, were able to locate her sons and husband, via SPOT Mapping, and tow the boat back to safety. The group had experienced engine failure and were not able to connect with emergency response via a traditional cell phone.

Jennifer was able to board her flight and reunite with her family in Bimini.  She is so thankful for SPOT helping her keep her family safe. Her motto is, “Don’t leave home without it!”
