Sea Rescue South Africa

Sea Rescue is a charitable organisation staffed by volunteers. They have rescue bases along the South African coast and on inland dams with the goal of preventing drowning through education, preventative measures and rescue. Skills and techniques are continuously being updated as is the integration of new technology. NSRI response boats are equipped with SPOT Trace units to provide accurate locational information for operations.

Emergency Disaster Response

Emergency Disaster Response (EDR) International is a non-profit disaster risk reduction and response agency operating in South Africa and internationally with their main objective of assisting the vulnerable in crisis. Rescue teams access their patients via helicopter, 4x4 vehicles, utility vehicles and on foot. Each person and rescue vehicle are equipped with a SPOT satellite tracking device in order for supervisors to pinpoint their exact location and monitor progress.

Namib Quest

The Namib Quest is a 6 day 700km mountain bike stage race across the Namibian desert. The race is ultra enduring, challenging and take place in isolated areas which are home to threatening terrain, wildlife and have absolutely no GSM signal. As there are scarce water stops, long distances and hard areas to traverse, partcipants carry a SPOT Gen3 to send emergency messages. SPOT X units were used by operations and race support to monitor emergencies.

Kinetic Events

Kinetic Events run a host of Adventure Races in the Southern Africa region and their expedition Africa series form part of the Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS). Teams traverse remote and dangerous terrain so are equipped with a SPOT Gen3 to summon help if needed.

Off Road Rescue Unit

The Off Road Rescue Unit (ORRU) is a highly-trained crew of volunteer 4x4 owners in South Africa with regional teams based in 5 of the 9 provinces. The Unit works closely with local, regional and national emergency management services to provide search and rescue services, transport, logistical support and radio communications. SPOT Trace devices are used by the organisation to assist with location management of resources when performing a rescue or supporting an event.

GEOS INTERNATIONAL EMERGENCY RESCUE COORDINATION CENTER (IERCC)

The mission at GEOS is to provide emergency rescue coordination and SPOT SOS/911 monitoring through the dedicated IERCC which is based in a secure facility just North of Houston, TX. The IERCC is the world's first international emergency response center having supported rescues in over 100 countries and saving many thousands of lives.
