Is cell service required to use SPOT Connect?

No! Because SPOT uses 100% satellite technology independent of cellular, SPOT works around the world or in your back yard. See the coverage map at findmeSPOT.com.

Note that SPOT Connect is not a phone. It sends one-way text/type via satellite and only works once you have downloaded the SPOT Connect App and registered your SPOT Connect device with service to use the app. You must be using the SPOT Connect App to send messages from SPOT Connect. SOS has stand-alone message capability on the Connect device.

When in cell service, SPOT Connect will allow you to update messages and contacts on-the-go right from your account at findmeSPOT.com. This way, you’ll be ready to go when you hit the trail.
