2008 Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award

wsjAwardThe Wall Street Journal recently announced that SPOT Satellite Messenger has received the prestigious 2008 Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award in the Consumer Electronics category. This marks the sixth industry award for SPOT since being introduced in November of 2007. The Wall Street Journal received more than 700 entries to be considered for the Innovation Awards. Judges looked for innovations that broke new ground in their field and demonstrated a measurable impact. Only four percent of the entries received the final award in 19 different categories. Bill Peschka, a Tour Divide Veteran, was cycling in Wyoming as part of an ultra-distance mountain bike race following the Continental Divide from Banff Canada to the Mexican border at Antelope Wells, NM. BillsAdventure_sm.jpg One June afternoon, Peschka was cycling in Sweetwater County where he stumbled upon Andreas Fassbender, a German cyclist heading north to Canada.

Fassbender had been catapulted off his bike after hitting a patch of deep sand with the front wheel. Fassbender had been lying on the ground waiting for 2 hours as he was unable to connect to local authorities due to lack of cellular coverage.
