Popular Mechanics: 2010 Breakthrough Award

pop-mech-awardsThe DeLorme Earthmate PN-60w with SPOT Satellite Communicator was chosen as one of The Top 10 Breakthrough Products of 2010 by Popular Mechanics. We are honored to have been recognized by such a prestigious publication and award. Popular Mechanics editors described the PN-60w with SPOT Satellite Communicator as “a valuable tool on any trip that extends well outside of cell phone range. It not only provides detailed topographical maps and GPS guidance in the backcountry, it also lets explorers send SOS messages with embedded coordinates via satellite if they're in trouble — or Facebook updates if they're not.”

Tour Divide Adventure Cycling Race Riders Use SPOT

TdivideThe Great Divide Mountain Bike Route is described as the “battle royale” that “braves mountain passes and windswept valleys of the Continental Divide from hinterlands of the Canadian Rockies to badlands of the Mexican Plateau.” With one single mammoth stage of 2,745 miles, this race is as huge as the West. Starting in Banff, Alberta, Canada and finishing in Antelope Wells, New Mexico, this self-supported mountain bike race took off on June 10 and the participants are well on their way to New Mexico. Tour Divide holds some major credibility because there are no prizes: just passionate riders with blood, sweat and tears. Check it out as the clock runs non-stop!

Soon after, Dale visited REI to purchase his first SPOT device. In celebration of Memorial Day, Dale and 7 other hikers ranging from ages 51 to 74 decided to take a five day trip to Mattole Beach Campground near Petrolia, California. This time, he made sure to add his new SPOT Gen 3™ as a "must bring" item.
