After breaking off from a group, Friday, May 13, off-duty Washington state trooper, Dan Anderson went on a solo hike in the Cascade Mountains. Before settling for the night, Anderson realized he had lost his tent somewhere along the hike. Without proper protection from the rain and snow, he was unable to withstand the freezing temperature in his sleeping bag.
The car is loaded up and your family is eagerly waiting to arrive at the campground. Unfortunately your car breaks down halfway in the middle of nowhere and it’s getting dark. With no cell service, you can’t call for a tow truck. Luckily, you remembered to take SPOT on the trip.
Before you head out on the road, make sure you have SPOT Assist Roadside. It’s the one and only 100% satellite roadside assistance service available on the market. Unlike OnStar or AAA, SPOT Assist sends your request for roadside assistance via satellite independent of cellular service range. Don’t be left on a remote highway with a broken down auto. Just a quick press of a button or a selection on your smartphone powered by SPOT Connect can get you roadside help.
Whether you’re out at sea, riding the open road or hiking the trail, SPOT can assist you in a time of dire need or allow others to track your location. Read some of the latest experiences our loyal SPOT customers have sent us.

After enjoying a beautiful day out on the water, spending time with family and friends, you start up the engine to head back to shore and realize that your boat has run out of fuel. When you reach for your phone, you realize that you have no cell service and you’re outside of VHF range. Instead, reach for your SPOT.
Dale, a retired community college administrator and instructor, is an avid hiker, backpacker and cyclist. At the age of 67, he now spends most of his free time hiking through the backcountry of Oregon and California alone and with fellow backpackers.
Like many hikers, Dale often worried about connectivity during his travels. This is why SPOT peaked his interest when reading one of his favorite magazines. Soon after, Dale visited REI to purchase his first SPOT device. In celebration of Memorial Day, Dale and 7 other hikers ranging from ages 51 to 74 decided to take a five day trip to Mattole Beach Campground near Petrolia, California. This time, he made sure to add his new SPOT Gen 3™ as a "must bring" item.
