Covington, LA (January 19, 2016) –SPOT LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Globalstar, Inc., (NYSE: GSAT) and the leader in satellite messaging and emergency notification technologies, will be showcasing its affordable satellite communications solutions at the 2016 Progressive International Motorcycle Shows in Dallas, Cleveland and Phoenix. SPOT is currently being used by customers to initiate almost two rescues a day and delivers location-based messaging and life-saving emergency notification technology to hundreds of thousands of users, completely independent of cellular coverage. The newest addition to the SPOT family, the $99.95 SPOT Trace®, offers an affordable and inconspicuous option for tracking high-value assets. Utilizing satellite-based anti-theft tracking technology, users can receive theft-alert SMS texts or emails when movement is detected. SPOT Trace’s battery life of up to 18 months and available line power option lets users confidently monitor assets on and off the grid, in near real-time via the SPOT App.
According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, there are nearly 43,000 motorcycle thefts reported a year. Jonathan Ren Eversole became part of that statistic earlier this year when he woke to find his motorcycle missing and used SPOT Trace to recover the stolen bike. “I did a lot of research on GPS units and came across the SPOT Trace. I was able to login to the website and locate my motorcycle with its GPS coordinates,” says Eversole. With that information, he alerted the police who were able to make the arrest and recover the stolen bike. According to Eversole, his SPOT Trace “paid for itself 100 times over.” More information on the story, including video footage Eversole captured of the incident, can be viewed here.
SPOT recently announced its 4,000th worldwide rescue since its launch in 2007, with over a quarter of those rescues involving motor vehicles. One of those includes Michael Herrera, SPOT’s 4000th rescuee, who suffered serious injuries after taking a hard fall on his dual-sport bike. More information including photos and video footage of Herrera and his wife telling their story, can be viewed here.
Just recently, another outdoor aficionado and motorcycle rider Alfred Moore found himself pinned under his bike and in bad shape after he hit a switchback in the sand while riding in Los Padres National Forest. He recalls, “The initial pain was horrific, but then I lost feeling in my leg below my knee cap.” After dropped calls due to poor cell coverage, he grabbed his SPOT GEN3® that his wife convinced him to purchase just days prior to trip and pressed the S.O.S button. Within an hour and a half, rangers arrived on the scene and transferred him via helicopter to the hospital where x-rays determined he had three separate fractures in his ankle that required surgery.
Moore is thankful he had SPOT with him on his ride that day and asserts, "SPOT saved my life! SPOT is a must-have piece of gear for any outdoor enthusiast and is the best investment I ever made. No one would have known exactly where I was without SPOT that day and I would have been alone. I won't leave the house without it." Read Moore’s full rescue story here.
SPOT will be attending the following 2016 Progressive International Motorcycle Shows:
