SPOT Firmware Updater



This software is for updating the firmware or modifiable settings for the SPOT Trace.

  1. Click the Download SPOT Trace Firmware Updater button for your operating system.



    Depending on which browser you are using, you can 'Save' in order to download the installer or 'Run' to launch.
    (If saved, check your downloads folder and select "Run" to launch the install wizard.)

    For Mac : Installing Updater package requires system admin password when prompted.

    NOTE: Some Antivirus programs may prevent this application from starting. If you do encounter installation problems, please contact SPOT Customer Service.

  2. Install the SPOT Device Updater.
    • Open the downloaded file and run the install wizard, follow the prompts.
    • After installation is complete the updater will open automatically.

  3. Plug in your SPOT device.
    • For best performance, the Trace unit should be turned off.
    • Using a micro USB cable, connect your device to a computer.
    • Windows Users: If this is the first time you are plugging in your SPOT device, wait for the device drivers to install.

  4. Update your SPOT device.
    • Enter your device's Auth code and click Submit. The Auth code can be found in your device's battery compartment.
    • Click Update Device to transfer your new settings from your account to your SPOT device.

  2. Install the SPOT Device Updater.
    • Open the downloaded file and run the install wizard, follow the prompts.
    • After installation is complete the updater will open automatically.

  3. Plug in your SPOT device.
    • Make sure your batteries are installed.
    • Using a micro USB cable, connect your device to a computer.
    • Windows Users: If this is the first time you are plugging in your SPOT device, wait for the device drivers to install.

  4. Update your SPOT device.
    • Enter your device's Auth code and click Submit. The Auth code can be found in your device's battery compartment.
    • Click Update Device to transfer your new settings from your account to your SPOT device.
    • Reinstall your batteries, if you removed them to secure the Auth code.



For SPOT Connect: The USB port is located in the battery compartment. To access, remove the battery door. Please remove the batteries from SPOT Connect before connecting the USB cable to avoid damaging your SPOT Connect.

  2. Plug the mini USB cable into your SPOT Device's USB port located in the battery compartment. Once the application launches, it will wait for your SPOT Device to be connected to your computer. Please connect the USB cable directly to the USB port on the computer. Third-party USB hubs may affect the application from working successfully.

  3. Once connected, the Update Tool will request your Authorization code (found in the battery compartment) and then will check whether there is a firmware update available for your device.
    • If your firmware needs to be updated, the 'Perform Update' button will be enabled. Simply click 'Perform Update' to install the latest firmware on your SPOT Device.
    • If your firmware is up to date, the message will indicate that you have the latest firmware installed. No update is necessary.

The Firmware Update Tool will display a message to let you know the update was successfully installed.


Release Notes

For SPOT Communicator: The USB port is located in the battery compartment. To access, remove the battery door. Please remove the batteries from SPOT Communicator before connecting the USB cable to avoid damaging your SPOT Communicator.
