A Highly Experienced Solo Hiker Saved by SPOT in Colorado

RESCUE PROFILE: Manoj Voura
Manoj Voura Manoj, an experienced hiker and adventurer, found himself in a gripping tale of survival during a solo descent from Kit Carson Summit in Colorado. Battling nature's challenges, Manoj’s rescue underscores the importance of preparedness and reliable communication tools like SPOT satellite messengers.

On the descent from the summit of Kit Carson, Manoj missed a sharp turn. When he realized his mistake, he had already descended over 1,000 feet off the path and was weary after a full day of hiking. With no trails to guide him, Manoj chose to continue his descent and follow a creek, hoping it would be a route to human presence.

The journey grew grueling, his energy waning as he fought through the water and the underbrush. Amidst physical and mental exhaustion, Manoj thought of his daughter's impending wedding and his need for survival.
Nightfall brought new challenges—swarms of relentless mosquitoes, impending darkness, and cold weather. Manoj pressed on, despite his body's protests, inching forward towards an uncertain fate. At an elevation above 10,000 feet, he sought shelter, enveloped in a survival blanket.

In a pivotal moment, Manoj turned to his SPOT satellite messenger—a device that had accompanied him for a decade yet never been utilized for emergency rescue before, only to send update messages to family and friends when he reached a summit. With a simple action, he activated the SOS signal and alerted his family and a Critical Event Management Service to his dire situation.

As the night wore on, hope remained a fragile beacon. And then, a miracle—bright, moving flashes of light pierced the darkness. With newfound determination, Manoj signaled his presence, guiding his rescuers to him. Two members of the Saguache Sheriff Department emerged as his lifelines, dispatched to his precise location.
Reflecting on his ordeal, Manoj's gratitude shines through. His tale exemplifies the significance of being prepared and carrying tools like satellite messengers. These devices bridge the gap between isolation and rescue, offering a lifeline when it matters most.

Manoj's SPOT device became his lifeline, connecting him to help and keeping my loved ones informed. His story serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of the wild and the strength of the human spirit when faced with adversity.

And in case you were wondering, Manoj is back on the trails today, accompanied by his SPOT device and determined to finish all the fourteeners in Colorado.
